Alison Lowry

Alison Lowry is an emerging maker, specialising in glass. Her work is innovative and contemporary; by combining traditional glass fusing techniques with more contemporary technologies she creates a diverse and unique range of sculptural glass pieces.

After gaining a first class honours degree in Art and Design from the University of Ulster she went on to win first prize in the Glass category at the RDS Craft Competition and was also awarded the Glass Society of Ireland’s award in 2009. In 2011 Alison was awarded a placement at the University of Ulster where she will be based for two years on Craft NI's making it programme for craft business development.

Alison draws inspiration from Ireland's rich textile past, “as an artist I am interested in textiles, especially clothing. Fabric preserves the essence of its maker; it can act as a vessel for memory and leaves a trace of the wearer as it physically contacts their body. It is the translation of this essence into glass that I am motivated by.”
