Scott Benefield

Scott Benefield is internationally known as a glassblower and educator with a speciality in Italian cane techniques. He has conducted workshops on these techniques in the UK, ROI, Turkey, Japan and throughout the United States.

Scott helped start the New Orleans School of Glassworks in 1990, a non-profit public glass school and gallery. In 1992 he founded Studio Inferno, a production studio for blown and cast glass wares and in 1997 moved to Seattle to establish Isola Glass.

In 2010 he married glass artist Andrea Spencer and built a glassblowing studio in Randalstown, Northern Ireland. The Northern Ireland studio offers a unique opportunity to purchase or commission handblown glass that is locally designed and produced.

“I create hand-blown glass using traditional Venetian cane techniques. Each piece has a clean, contemporary design that utilizes the unique properties of overlapping transparencies to create vibrant hues in a virtual plaid”.

Although well-established at retail craft outlets and galleries through the US, Scott’s work has only recently become available in the UK. Scott produces unique one-off commissioned and gallery pieces as well as affordable giftware.
