Creative Network: Crafts event in partnership with Heritage Crafts

18 April 2024

Deadline: May 21, 2024

In partnership with Heritage CraftsCreative Network: Crafts is a regular online group for anyone interested in participatory, amateur, and heritage crafts. They discuss issues and challenges, share tips and resources, and support each other.

Join Creative Network on the 21st May for Social media as a form of craft practice.

Many craftspeople, both professional and amateur, recognise the need to share what they do through social media. For some this comes naturally and for others it feels like a separate skill-set and a distraction from their beloved craft. However, there is another way to think of social media, as an integral part of the creative process, and requiring an approach not altogether different from making.

During this session you will hear from Daisy Bow du Toit, a cyanotype maker, craft influencer and PhD candidate at Kingston University, studying social media as another form of craft creative practice. With 67k followers on Instagram and 140k followers on TikTok, her interests encompass many disciplines, from visual culture, cultural studies, media studies, identity politics and craft practice.

This is part of Creative Network, a series of free online discussions on a range of topics which intersect with everyday creativity, led by Creative Lives. The sessions bring people together to learn from, share with, and inspire each other, with expert insight from guest speakers.
