“(There is a) difference between the imported ‘fast’ baskets from China and the ‘slow’ ones made by the local basket maker (that are) organic, local, well-designed for a contemporary market, authentic, ‘Slow’ and above all sustainable…” Lois Walpole (2008), The Future of European Basket Making?

This exhibition was produced by the National Craft Gallery of Ireland in 2007. It is curated by practitioners Joe Hogan and Mary Butcher. A smaller display of European baskets will also be exhibited at the Ulster American Folk Park in Omagh.
