The Victoria & Albert Museum in London offers an extensive annual exhibition programme in art and design. Browse their current exhibitions:
Venetian Visions: the art of Canaletto, Tiepolo, Carlevarijs and their contemporaries 1700 – 1800
7 October 2011 – 1 April 2012. This display will draw from the V&A collections of prints, drawings and prints to porcelain, lace and glass.
Ai Weiwei: Dropping the Urn (Ceramic Works, 5000 BC – AD 2010)
15 October 2011 – 18 March 2012. This display presents work by Beijing based artist Ai Weiwei, one of the most prominent artists working in China today
Porcelain City: Jingdezhen
4 November 2011 – 25 March 2012. Porcelain City: Jingdezhen is a display of contemporary works in pottery.
Rabindranath Tagore: Poet and Painter
13 December 2011 – 4 March 2012. To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Rabindranath Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941), the V&A will hold a display of about 50 of his paintings from the period 1928 to 1939, never before displayed outside India.
Beatrix Potter country: a legacy in Lakeland and beyond
13 December 2011 – 12 June 2012. This display explores the profound connections that Beatrix Potter’s artwork sustains with the Lake District and the part her lasting legacy has played in the preservation of this region and other parts of Britain’s heritage.
Albertopolis: the Development of South Kensington and the Exhibition Road Cultural Quarter
This display will chart the development of South Kensington and the Exhibition Road Cultural Quarter from 1851 up to the present day.
Queen Elizabeth II by Cecil Beaton: A Diamond Jubilee Celebration
8 February – 22 April 2012. To celebrate The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the V&A is holding an exhibition of portraits of Her Majesty by photographer Cecil Beaton (1904-1980).
British Design 1948-2012
March – August 2012. To coincide with the 2012 Olympics, this exhibition will showcase 60 years of British creative talent. It will document the transformation of design in Britain since the post-war 'Austerity Games' of 1948.
