A solo show of art pieces by Siobhan Rodgers examining folklore, superstition and fairy tales at Space Craft from 6 May - 4 June 2011.
Siobhan Rodgers is currently studying on her final year of a masters in Multi-Disciplinary Design at the University of Ulster.
Siobhan says, “my work would be best described as applied art and folklore. For the final submission of my masters I will be exhibiting a body of work entitled Tales of Love, Death and the Weather, which will comprise of art pieces based on folklore, superstition and fairy tales; each piece is created with the crafts and motifs of fairy tales, and will be accompanied by a short piece of text, either poetry or prose which will expand the re-telling.
It is my aim to practice the traditional art of storytelling through the creation and exhibition of objects; updating them for today’s audience whilst allowing the viewer to experience them within the context of their own experience. My processes range from hand weaving, embroidery and photography to installation, found items and ‘destroyed’ objects.
Materials for this particular body of work will include; textiles, woven rushes and briars, ceramics, metals and found and repurposed items. The pieces vary for each tale but will include small crafted articles, larger sculptural pieces and photography".
An online exhibition is available to view at Cultue Northern Ireland.
