The Semiotics of Silver

Exhibitions20th January, 2011

Tipped as the 'one to watch' in 2011, silversmith Samantha Moore presents an exciting new show of contemporary silver objects at Craft NI until 4 March with a final viewing from 6-9pm on Thursday 3 March for Late Night Art.

Northern Ireland based contemporary silversmith Samantha Moore graduated in 2009 with a honours degree in Fine and Applied Art in the University of Ulster. Working under the tutelage of world renowned Goldsmith Graham Harron, Sam has enjoyed success early in her career having work exhibited with the V&A, The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths and the National Trust. Samantha will be one of the 'Rising Stars' at British Silver Week in May 2011.

Samantha creates contemporary silverware and draws inspiration from drinking rituals both religious and profane in order to explore the idea of crafts and their role in our cultural identity.
Her work often combines precious and semi-precious metals with materials such as wood and wool.

As part of her current MA, Samantha will present a new series of contemporary jewelled objects that enhance the everyday routine of personal ritual into silver ‘wear’ that adorns the table, home and body.
