Charity Auction calls for bids on collectable work by NI Silversmith

Members of the public are being asked to bid for Northern Ireland Silversmith, Cara Murphy, one of 74 UK celebrities, craftspeople and artists, who has been commissioned for the Branching Out project.

Branching Out  was devised by the Liveries Wood Group: the Worshipful Companies of Carpenters, Furniture-Makers, Joiners & Ceilers, Turners and Upholders. It will help raise funds for the Arboretum Trust (Kew at Castle Howard), whose 6,500 trees and plants rely on volunteers to survive.

74 celebrities, craftspeople and artists were commissioned to transform a small pieces of branch into works of art as part of the UK.  

Contemporary silversmith Cara Murphy from Hillsborough, Co. Down, who is well-known for innovative, sculptural silver tableware, is representing Northern Ireland. Her Lot, number 71, is decorated with 15 precious white silver cups of varying sizes. 

You can bid on Cara's or any of the lots online by visiting the Branching Out Charity Timed Auction until the 30 September 2010.

Other well-known personalities who have been commissioned include Joanna Lumley, Chris Martin, Jon Snow, Sarah Faberge, Allen Jones, Binh Pho and Sebastian Conran.

All proceeds from the auctions will go to the Arboretum Trust.
