New Blacksmith Business in Craigavon

This month emerging blacksmith Stephen Murphy launches his craft business at Oxford Island in Craigavon. Cold Iron - a fitting title for the blacksmithing business - will open its doors with the support of the making it 09 programme.

Steven Murphy graduated from Hereford with a degree in Artist Blacksmithing and spent 18 months working for Ironart of Bath where he worked alongside a range of experienced blacksmiths and metalworkers. 

In 2008 he was selected for the making it 09 programme which provides support to emerging makers who want to set up a craft business. He is now based at Artspace, Oxford Island and has a forge at Silverwood in Lurgan. With experience in business and blacksmithing, 

As Steven has just completed his first year of the making it programme business incubation programme, this is a good time to launch his business.

Steven works to commission for interior and architectural products, teaches workshops in Craigavon and regulagly gives demonstrations at open days, festivals and other events. You can view a gallery of Steven’s work on his website.

He specialises in hot forged metal and uses a mix of both traditional and contemporary metal working techniques.
