Design Museum: Designers in Residence 2012
Applications are invited from UK designers who have graduated from Higher Education in the past five years. The deadline is 20 February 2012.
The Design Museum continues to support the next generation of designers and creatives with its Designers in Residence programme. The exhibition showcases the work of young designers at the beginning of their careers offering the opportunity to interact and engage with the public, whilst using this platform as a test-bed for ideas, designs and innovations.
The brief for Designers in Residence 2012 (exhibition runs 29 August – 27 January 2013) has been set by the Director of the Design Museum, Deyan Sudjic. He invites product, furniture, graphic, spatial or interaction designers to explore the idea of thrift economy – and its limitations - and resourcefulness in an object, an environment or an experience for their Designers in Residence 2012 proposal.
The four selected Designers in Residence will each receive commission fee to create a new piece of work in response to the brief. This work will be shown in a dedicated exhibition at the Design Museum between 29 August 2012 and 27 January 2013. Following the successful completion of the residency, the selected Designers in Residence will each receive a bursary to support the development of their career.
