From Experience brings together and connects individuals and institutions working broadly in the field of Applied Arts and the Art & Design-led contemporary craft industry in and outside Northern Ireland. It aims to generate new insights and thinking, to liberate and support practitioners, to empower and in doing so, increase opportunities for generating new formats of practices and ways of identifying, meeting and interacting with an interested and expanding audience.

It is set up to engage and empower those who see the need to improve and review their decision-making and way of managing their art and/or design-work and business. Therefore, equally welcome as workshop participants are commissioners, retailers, manager and gallery owners, collectors of contemporary objects and those whose experience and contribution to the debate about owning, placing and promoting the work of contemporary makers will be pivotal, which may also include writers, publishers and individuals engaged in education and policy making.

From Experience consists of two elements:

• The Public Symposium is the one day event with international speakers, presentations by leading practitioners and thinkers taking place from 9.30-5pm on Friday, 4 March 2011. It is open to the interested public and attendance is free. Full information & online registration →

• The Workshop is a three days event but for selected participants only from 3-5 March 2011.  If you would like to participate in the full workshop programme you will have to make an application and commit to attend the full workshop which includes the public symposium.
