Deadline Extended: International Linen Biennial, Portneuf

Call for Makers23rd July 2010 - 31st August 2010

Craft NI and University of Ulster are currently inviting expressions of interest from designer-makers in all disciplines in Northern Ireland or Republic of Ireland to exhibit at the Biennale International du Lin de Portneuf (BILP).

Biennale International du Lin de Portneuf (BILP) is an artistic and cultural event highlighting contemporary practices related to flax and linen, both technically and conceptually.  It takes place at cultural exhibition centres in the Portneuf region of Quebec Province, Canada. 

The Biennale focuses on three elements: craft, visual arts and fashion.  It is concerned with: (i) presenting the works of contemporary practitioners; (ii) recognising linen within art and craft practice for both functional attributes and powerful socio-cultural context; (iii) exhibiting such work within exceptional and historically relevant locations in rural Quebec. 

The theme for 2011 craft exhibition is, ‘The Linen Diaspora – cultural memory reinvented’ and will be curated by Professor Karen Fleming, University of Ulster.  The work presented in the exhibition will be by both Canadian and Irish artists.  A call has been issued in Canada. This call for expressions of interest is for designer makers in Northern Ireland or Republic of Ireland. For more information please download the application pack.
