Making it in the 21st century
‘Making it in the 21st century’ presents some interesting regional findings which bear relevance to the crafts sector in Northern Ireland. For example, based on a body of research, the report makes a number of estimates that some 32,000 makers generate a turnover for England and Wales for 2003 of £826 million, which is greater than the fishing division, the forestry and logging division, the manufacture of motorcycles and bicycles or the manufacture of sports goods.
It also emphasises how the crafts sector makes a vital contribution to the wider economy through, and among other things, its role within the creative industries sector and its focus for entrepreneurial activity.
The reports are in PDF version which you can download and print. The cost for a hardcopy version of the report is £12.
