Al-Ireland Heritage Sills Programme 2023-2024

The All-Ireland Heritage Skills Programme is a collaboration between The Prince’s Foundation, The Heritage Council and Department for Communities’ Historic Environment Division (HED).

This year eight bursaries are available for people already working or studying in heritage skills and the construction sector – in particular stonemasonry, carpentry, joinery, bricklaying, blacksmithing, plastering, thatching, roofing, tiling, painting, and decorating – and who would like to raise their skills to the next level.

The All-Ireland Heritage Skills Programme is a 12-month course, which provides practical experience and training in a broad range of diverse heritage building skills across the island of Ireland.

Eligibility:

The All-Ireland Heritage Skills Programme is not an entry level programme, candidates must have prior experience in their craft area of choice, either via college or onsite working experience. Applicants must be able to demonstrate at least one of the following:

  • QQI/NFQ Level 4 or 5 Certificate in a building / construction subject

and / or

  • NVQ/SVQ Level 2 or 3 Certificate in a building / construction subject..

and/or

  • Qualification in a building craft / construction subject from a recognised authority

and /or

  • Significant working experience in your chosen craft / trade area

You will required to submit a portfolio (PDF format) containing examples of work/projects you have undertaken in relation to your craft/trade area.

 

Important Dates:

Start date – 9th July 2023

End date – 28th June 2024

 

Location:

The programme is delivered across different locations in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Participants of the programme will be registered for their NVQ assessment at the Department for Communities Historic Environment Division (HED) Heritage and Skills Centre in Moira, Co Down, Northern Ireland.

The Summer School will be delivered at Dumfries House Estate in Scotland and the Winter School will be delivered in Kilkenny, in the Republic of Ireland.

Industry placements will be across Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
