Al Fresco Art and Craft demonstrations – Creative Peninsula

Be inspired as you watch the artists and makers at work.

The beautiful location of the newly re-vamped Courtyard at North Down Museum is the backdrop for this afternoon of art and craft demonstrations.

 

Take this unique opportunity to interact with Artists and Makers who will be providing free demonstrations throughout the afternoon and some hands-on activity to try yourself.
You can also explore the collection at North Down Museum, visit the Creative Peninsula exhibition and enjoy a coffee at Coffee Cure!

 

Demonstration Times

12pm – 4pm
Lee Boyd – Portrait Drawing

Watch the portrait unfold over the course of the afternoon as Lee Boyd demonstrates his portraiture skills using charcoal and pastels. Lee is happy to take your questions on his process or you can grab a coffee and just enjoy watching his subject come to life.

12pm – 2pm
Adele Pound – Paper Bird Sculpture

Adele will be demonstrating how she cuts and assembles her handmade paper bird decorations. There will also be some birds to colour in and make yourself.

Rosy Ennis – Collagraph (Making and Printing)

Express your creative side in this interactive printing with plants demonstration. Rosie will supply different flowers and plant life for you to experiment with and enjoy the art of creating a print.

Wee Yarn Designs – Dorset Button Making

Debbie McCann will demonstrate the heritage craft of Dorset Button making with an opportunity for you to have a go at making a button to take home yourself. A range of buttons, jewellery and historical information will be on display. All materials will be included.

1pm – 3pm
Alison Hanvey – Ceramic Flower Bird Feeders

Alison Hanvey will be cutting and sculpting previously thrown clay to demonstrate how she creates beautiful flower forms for the garden.

1pm – 3pm
Ray Elwood – Landscapes and Seascapes

Ray Elwood will demonstrate his signature land and seascapes using drawing and watercolour wash.

Simply Spun – Wool Spinning

Rosemary McCartney of Simply Spun will demonstrate the craft of wool spinning on a traditional wheel. You can try your hand on drop spindles!

1pm – 3pm
Rebecca Drysdale – Throwing on the Potter’s Wheel

Potter Rebecca Drysdale will facilitate a step by step on how to create a cylinder on the wheel.

2pm – 4pm
Duncan Irvine – Oils on Canvas

Duncan Irvine will demonstrate his signature style and discuss his technique through painting beautiful landscapes in oils.

2pm – 4pm
Sharon Regan – Ceramic Surface Texture

Sharon will demonstrate how she hand builds ceramic forms inspired by nature and using nature to create surface texture. Blank tiles of air-drying clay will be available for you to try the methods yourself. Pieces can then be taken home to decorate.

2pm – 4pm
Sarah Majury – Painting Wildlife

Watch Sarah create a wildlife portrait from initial sketching to blocking in with paint and then using oil pastels to build up textured layers to recreate the fur. Questions welcome along the way!

2pm – 4pm
Blue Door Studios – Mixed Media Landscapes

Watch Lyn Majury create a colourful landscape with layers of texture, incorporating recycled materials and mix media to capture the Northern Irish countryside.
