Traditional Spoon Carving
Due to unforeseen circumstances this event has now been cancelled
A summer Season of Craft workshops at the Market Place Theatre and Arts Centre.
Learn the traditional craft of Spoon Carving using unseasoned greenwood with Stephen Ryan from Green Woodwork Ireland.
Spoon carving is one of the most accessible and enjoyable woodcrafts you can experience. Using traditional tools to shape green [unseasoned] wood is pleasure that is hard to match. The beauty of green wood lies in its ability to be shaped easily as it is soft and easily worked with hand tools.
Stephen Ryan from Green Woodwork Ireland, will teach you the skills needed to become a traditional spoon carver. Each participant will learn axe and knife carving skills to produce their own spoon from locally sourced, freshly cut wood. All tools and materials are supplied. No experience necessary. Due to the use of sharp tools during the class, sturdy boots or shoes should be worn. Please bring an overall or old shirt.
