Call for local artists to transform Belfast Elmers
11 November 2021
Deadline: January 10, 2021
Belfast City Council is supporting Northern Ireland Hospice as a presenting partner for Elmer’s Big Belfast Trail 2022, a major public art trail to celebrate 21 years of care at Horizon House.
The free, family-friendly art trail – a collaboration between Northern Ireland Hospice, Wild in Art and Andersen Press – brings David McKee’s popular children’s character Elmer the Patchwork Elephant to life.
A herd of 30+ Elmers will be scattered across the city next summer. The project will commission local artists to decorate these sculptures to form an art trail that will weave its way across the city and surrounding areas, to create a free 10 week art gallery. It will act as a showcase for local art and design, attracting both residents and tourists to discover Belfast and learn about the vital work of Northern Ireland Hospice.
Northern Ireland Hospice are committed to supporting local artists and welcome high-impact designs in any art form including
- traditional
- new media
- fine art
- illustrations
- fashion/fabric design
- graffiti
- mosaic.
They would love to receive your designs to help add drama, fun and a creative flourish to the sculpture trail. If you are commissioned, you will receive an honorarium of £900 upon completion of your artwork.
