SUMMARY:Traditional Skills Festival
DESCRIPTION:Come along to the Traditional Skills Festival and meet  talented local crafters\, makers and artists. Visitors have the option to come down for a day or stay for three days. \nOver the weekend the farm will host a selection of hands on full and half day skills and crafts workshops with expert crafts people. Visitors will learn basic principles and skills\, get hands on with the tools and materials and maybe even create their first  crafted item. \nSunday (11am – 3pm) visitors will get the chance to watch demonstrations and learn from a number of crafters\, and also to explore a heritage craft trail around the farm. General admission tickets for the Sunday demonstration day can be purchased in advance. \nVisitors who wish to stay for the weekend can book to stay in Willow and Lore’s furnished bell tents or pitch up with their own camping kit. \n  \nPlease note\, admission ranges from £5 – £10 and workshop attendance from £45 to £90. Come along and learn about the craft practice of macramé!\n\n\nAlison Pascoe is a Belfast based artist and craftsperson specialising in the craft practice of macramé\, a heritage knotting technique used to create decorative patterns using rope\, cord and twine. Her collections are handcrafted art pieces and functional objects for modern spaces.\n\n\nThe practice of knot tying is a satisfying tactile experience and a mindful meditation that integrates deep relaxation alongside a high level of concentration. There is wonderful simplicity in using a single strand to create a perfectly engineered knot and a complex and decorative pattern through repetition. Her passion is sharing the benefits of practicing macramé by crafting in community and facilitating regular macramé workshops in studio and throughout the island of Ireland. Alison will also have macramé kits available to purchase on the night – a great way to introduce this practice into your home!\n\n\n𝘿𝙤𝙣’𝙩 𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙨 𝘼𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙤𝙣’𝙨 𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙖𝙩 7:30 𝙥𝙢 as she will talk us through her journey and demonstrate some macramé techniques. SUMMARY:'Wool Works' event: Textile Talk and Brunch
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this unique event associated with the ‘Wool Works exhibition currently on at Craft NI Gallery until August 5th. \nThe Textile talk and brunch will feature two very special guests: Chris Weiniger\, general manager of Donegal Yarns woollen mill who will talk about Ireland’s rich wool heritage\, and  Finnish textile artist and weaver Niina Hiltunen who will talk about the importance of craft within communities and also do a weaving demonstration for the audience using a portable loom. \nNiina Hiltunen is a textile and fiber artist working and living in Pirkanmaa region\, Finland. She holds a master’s degree in Art and Culture with weaving her specialty. She studied textile art at the University of Lapland 2020-2021 and starts there as a doctoral candidate in the autumn of 2022. Hiltunen is also interested in multidisciplinary art and in community art\, which has led her having an exhibition at a psychiatric centre in Tampere in 2019\, as well as leading art projects with the YMCA youth in 2019 and with dementia patients in 2021. Kädet kertovat (Talking hands)\, a multidisciplinary artwork combining textile / fiber art with contemporary dance\, video and sound art\, is her latest collaboration. \nThe programme of the day will be as follows: \n– 10:30 – 11 talk with Chris Weiniger\, general manager at Donegal Yarns woollen mill \n– 11 – 11:30 coffee/brunch break \n– 11:30 – 12:15 talk with Niina: Art & Well-being – Feel the weave and WeaveCreatively™: an introduction to a Finnish approach of textile art in community art practices. In her talk\, Niina clarifies the administrative means and actions of The Finnish Governments in implementing art as a continuous part of life and cure\, well-being in Finland. The second half of her talk will concentrate on her personal work as a textile artist and the workshops and community art practices she has led in the past years. \n– 12:15 – 13:15 demo with Nina: Feel the weave – WeaveCreatively™ . DESCRIPTION:Culture Night / Oíche Chultúir celebrates culture\, creativity and the arts and seeks to actively promote the belief that this rich and varied culture is alive\, treasured and nurtured in people’s lives\, today and every day. \nFor 2021 Culture Night Belfast is centred on Writer’s Square\, which will be transformed into a monumental\, immersive cultural experience running from Friday September 17 to Sunday September 19. In addition\, an intriguing interactive trail will help visitors to reconnect with\, and explore the rich artistic environment of the Cathedral Quarter \nThe Ogham Grove invites the public to explore our relationship with our native woodland and environment through a totally innovative and spectacular artwork. Taking inspiration from the Celtic Ogham Tree Alphabet a monumental\, immersive sculpture will be created within Writer’s Square as the centre piece to a trail of cryptic markers distributed throughout the Cathedral Quarter. Using QR codes linked to these inscriptions participants will be able to divine their own way through the Cathedral Quarter attempting to crack the secret code and discovering the rich cultural offering of Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter along the way. The work can be explored both throughout the day or in the evening and will run from Friday 17th to Sunday 19th September to engage with the maximum number of visitors in a safe and socially distanced way. \nCulture Night Belfast \nCulture Night Derry invites visitors to COME TOGETHER AGAIN with a diverse programme running through the afternoon and evening on Friday 17 September. \nVenues across Derry City and Strabane District have thrown open their doors or taken to the streets and invite you to enjoy an evening of diverse\, Free entertainment for all ages\nand interests. \nCulture Night Derry and Strabane

DESCRIPTION:ACNI’s SIAP fund is open and Suzanne Lyle\, Head of Visual Arts at ACNI will be at our MAKER MEET-UP on THURSDAY 2 JULY to answer questions about the programme. This year\, due to the circumstances\, artists who currently hold a Support for the Individual Artists Programme (SIAP) Award\, will be able to apply again.
