Job Opportunity – Weaver at Avoca Mill

Avoca are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Weaver to oversee and produce high-quality woven textiles. The successful candidate will possess expert knowledge of weaving techniques, loom operation, yarn selection, and pattern creation. The Weaver will be responsible for maintaining production quality, training junior weavers, and ensuring efficient workflow within the weaving department.

 

Key Responsibilities
• Operate and maintain handlooms or power looms to produce high-quality woven textiles.
• Interpret and implement weaving patterns, designs, and technical specifications.
• Select appropriate yarns, fibres, and materials for different textile products.
• Ensure consistent quality control throughout the weaving process.
• Set up looms including warp preparation, threading, and tension adjustments.
• Troubleshoot weaving issues such as thread breakage, uneven tension, or pattern defects.
• Train and mentor junior weavers and apprentices in proper weaving techniques.
• Collaborate with designers and production teams to develop new patterns and fabrics.
• Maintain weaving equipment and ensure a safe working environment.
• Monitor production timelines and ensure targets and deadlines are met.

 

 

Required Skills & Qualifications
• Extensive experience in professional weaving.
• Expert knowledge of loom setup, weaving structures, and textile materials.
• Ability to read and interpret weaving drafts and technical designs.
• Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship.
• Experience in quality control and textile finishing processes.
• Ability to train and supervise team members.
• Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

 

 

Desirable
• Formal training or certification in Textile Design, Textile Technology, or Handloom Weaving.
• Experience with traditional or heritage weaving techniques.
• Knowledge of dyeing processes and textile finishing.

 

 

Working Conditions
• Work may involve standing for extended periods and handling textile equipment.
• Workshop or production environment.
• Occasional lifting of yarns, beams, or weaving materials.

 

Salary: Competitive and based on experience.
