Flax Arts Studios working in collaboration with Belfast South supported by NI Housing Executive is offering a community focused artist residency opportunity, for two enthusiastic community engaged artists to live and work in Sandy Row from 1 August and 31 October 2026.
The Residency Space – Where you will work and live:
Flax Art Residency space on Blythe Street comprises a newly built dedicated arts studio/workshop space 60sqm on the ground floor and a two bedroom live-in artist apartment on the second floor.
Reimagining the Fairythorn Garden
Residency Focus:
The selected artists will work with residents, children and community partners to develop and design concepts for future large-scale artwork around Fairythorn Garden and also have the opportunity to focus on their own practice.
Who is this for?
We see this as an opportunity for emerging community engaged artists, but it is open to all artists in every stage of their career.

Artist Studio
Artist Fee £1,000.00 per artist (plus all bills/accommodation costs covered)
Opportunity to gain experience/develop your skills in socially engaged visual art practice working directly with the community in South Belfast.
Support from Flax Art Studios and Belfast South throughout the residency.

DEADLINE For submission WEDNESDAY 15TH JULY AT 12 NOON:
Shortlisted artists will be required to attend an informal zoom conversation on Monday 20th of July.
Please submit your CV, Artist Statement, 6 recent images of your work or link to your website/Instagram. One A4 proposal of plans for the workshops/working with the community and details of your experience of leading workshops and particular interest in living and working in Sandy Row.
