Freelands Foundation Fellowship 2025

The Studio Fellowship programme offers artists funding for a year, a personal studio within the setting of one of the partner universities’ art departments, and dedicated time and support to develop their individual artistic practice. In addition, they will receive mentorship and the opportunity to engage with the current student body, supporting staff with workshops, crits and tutorials as well as hosting at least one artist’s talk.

About the programme:

  • Fellows will be based at their host university for 12 months, beginning at the earliest in February 2025 – with their own studio as part of the Fine Art department.
  • Fellows will receive a bursary of £26,000 to support them throughout the duration of the Fellowship
  • Fellows will have access to workshop and library facilities as well as regular contact with a dedicated mentor.
  • Fellows will have the opportunity to visit one of the partner universities in the role of a visiting Lecturer/practitioner.
  • Fellows will work towards a solo exhibition with their host university.

Application criteria:

Applications are invited from studio-based artists who graduated from one of the eight participating universities:

  1. Bath School of Art, Film and Media, Bath Spa University
  2. Birmingham School of Art, Birmingham City University
  3. Cardiff School of Art and Design, Cardiff Metropolitan University
  4. Duncan Jordanstone College of Art & Design, University of Dundee
  5. Falmouth School of Art, Falmouth University
  6. Gray’s School of Art, Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen
  7. School of Art and Media, University of Brighton
  8. Belfast School of Art, Ulster University

Check out the application guidance before selecting a university. Each university will state what resources they have, for example at Bath School of Art, Film and Media, Bath Spa University, fellows will have full access to the facilities and technical support at the Locksbrook Art and Design campus, which include the paint methods room, photography, ceramics, sculpture and casting, metal work, woodwork, and print studios as well as 3D fabrication, digital print and digital textiles.
