Inner Walled City Public Realm, Public Art Commission Derry/Londonderry
21 March 2024
Deadline: April 24, 2024On behalf of The Department for Communities (DfC), Landscape Architects The Paul Hogarth Company are facilitating the process of appointing an artist or artist team to design and fabricate public art to be installed in two locations as part of a wider public realm scheme.
The public realm scheme will see a series of key city streets regenerated, including the introduction of high quality natural stone surfacing, new lighting and street furniture. The proposed artwork, as well as being a creative intervention, will also be required to function like a series of bollards, to delineate pedestrian space/deter vehicle access.
Location:
The two locations for the public art are within the setting of the historic City Walls, one is adjacent to the Tower Museum at Magazine Gate and the other close to The Apprentice Boys Memorial Hall on Society Street. Both within the Conservation Area of the historic city.
Project description:
Artists are asked to take inspiration in their design from a story or historical event/feature connected to the city. Expression can be conceptual or realistic and should be complementary to their setting. The budget for the scheme will be in the region £90,000. This cost will cover artists time and the full fabrication of the art work.
Selection:
The selection of an artist will be appointed through a two-stage tender process. For stage 1 all interested parties are required to complete a short pre-qualification questionnaire. For stage 2, shortlisted artists will be asked to provide design proposals for consideration. A standalone fee of £750 will be paid to each shortlisted artist upon satisfactory submission of stage 2 documentation.
The deadline for the stage 1 expression of interest is Wednesday 24th April at 12 noon.
