Leitrim Sculpture Centre Seeks New Technical Staff

Artistic Production Technician

The Sculpture Centre is a national resource for advancing the creative practice and knowledge of visual art making and its collaborative engagement with the ecologies of landscape, place and the rural. Functioning as a testing-ground for new work we foster experimentation across a wide range of material processes in the development of creativity, innovation and learning.

The Artistic Production Technician will provide artists with technical support across all technical areas of the Centre, including: woodwork, stone, metalwork, mouldmaking, ceramics, digital and traditional print areas, general fabrication and construction and gallery installation. The person will be part of a small and dedicated team of professionals and relevant training will be provided by the Centre where appropriate.

Term: 
The position is for a fixed term period of 2 years. The LSC reserves the right to terminate the position in the event of the withdrawal of Arts Council or other relevant funding. Probationary period of 6 months will apply.

Remuneration:
Gross – €21,840 pa – Part-time for three days per week – 21 hours in total.
The employee will be required to be flexible in their working week, but generally it will be Monday to Wednesday or Wednesday – Friday. 7hrs per day, 9am – 4pm. Occasional work over weekends will be required, with equivalent time off in lieu.

Additional Benefits:
Opportunities for additional remuneration exist for freelance work outside these hours at the Centre either as an artist’s mentor or a workshop tutor. The Centre will also support the technician in developing their own practice at the Centre through the use of its expansive technical facilities.

Annual Leave
Statutory holidays plus public holidays and an additional two calendar weeks at Christmas when the Centre is closed.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

Skills Required:
Requirements are that applicants will have a track record working within an art organisations or within an educational environment in supporting artists to advance their practice.

Priority areas for support:

  1. Hot Processes such as foundry work, welding, casting, mouldmaking and ceramics
  2. Woodwork and sculptural construction, forming and/or assemblage in a variety of materials and processes
  3. Gallery installation

Technicians/artists experienced in all or some of these areas may apply.

Mandatory

  • Third level qualification in the visual arts or 3 years’ experience working in arts production.
  • Good understanding and knowledge of a broad range of technical and material processes used within the Centre and across the visual arts.
  • Flexibility and ability to move from one process to another.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Excellent computer experience and knowledge of digital media.
  • Fluent in English.

Desirable

  • Patience, flexibility and an ability to respond to the creative process.
  • Your own artistic practice and an interest in art and its creation.
  • Full driving license and vehicle.
