Alistair R

Jewellery

Alistair R is an independent premium jewellery workshop handmaking in-house a range of cufflinks, necklaces, earrings and lapel pins. With an emphasis on simple, uncluttered and timeless design and carving primarily from rough semi-precious stone each piece aims to capture the alchemy and unique character of the natural material.

Bio

Alistair founded his studio in 2009 – inspired by a set of 1920’s moonstone and gold cufflinks and dress studs, a family heirloom of timeless quality, and a lifelong interest in the natural world and geology. Leaving the corporate world behind he trained in stone carving (lapidary) under the tutelege of Roger Dunkin in Hatton Gardens, London – and silversmithing, launching initially with a range of cufflinks. It was not long before he was asked to incorporate his designs into necklaces and other jewellery, and so the range grew, always reflecting his passion for natural materials, the desire for striking and uncluttered design – and belief that simple pared back design is embued with the quality of permanence. Timeless designs that endure rather than ones driven by fashion which are transient and fade.

Working primarily from rough and unworked stone obtained from sustainable sources around the world as well as locally found material his pieces are handmade in his stone carving and jewellery making workshop – each aiming to capture the alchemy and unique character of the natural material.    Producing gold and silver jewellery across a broad and accessible price range Alistair incorporates into a small range of one-of luxury pieces work of the world-renowned stone carver and friend Dieter Lorenz. Exhibiting at premier events in the London and Dublin as well as small community and charity shows close to home his work is  featured on a number of premium UK and US based online marketplaces including Wolf & Badger. A member of the Crafts Council of Ireland Alistair was selected to be on the Design Ireland programme for 2021.
