Ceramics

Andrea is a Lisburn based potter and tutor who creates decorative and functional ceramics with dotty decoration and ceramic button embellishments.

Bio

Born in Belfast, Andrea graduated from the University of Ulster with a B.A. Hons in Fine Craft Design, Ceramics, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Applied Arts. She set up “relatively ceramics” after graduation in 2006 and has combined creating her own work with sharing her love of ceramics through teaching at the Island Arts Centre.

Andrea works in high fired cream earthenware and uses the clay colour as a base for her dotty decoration and ceramic button and bunting embellishments.

Her “dotty” collection of functional and decorative ceramics has been born from her love of clay. This joy of making ceramics which are colourful, playful, and cheerful to the soul has developed alongside her exhibition pieces. She has used hand painted dots and a variety of blue glazes in her work for so many years that they have become signature elements.

Her recent work with female figurative sculptures has led her to experiment with porcelain printed lace and ceramic buttons and these elements have married with dotty decoration and soft blue interior glaze in her functional ceramic range.

Her latest range uses a soft pastel colour palette that lends a delicate vintage quality to this range.
