Claire creates thrown porcelain pieces on a potter’s wheel, taking inspiration from her home area of Mourne.
Claire began working with clay 7 years ago. Knowing that she wanted to do something creative with her life, she fell into the material in the middle of her high school years. With the support from her teachers she actually began as a handbuilder, lucky to have access to a kiln but not much knowledge of what a pottery wheel even was! It wasn’t until university, where she decided to further her clay knowledge and take on a ceramic course, that Claire found herself planted a wheel. What began as a daunting experience turned out to be for the best as the process reinvented Claire’s work and opened her up to the fast paced life of functional work and introduced her to the making of the vessel.
Claire creates thrown porcelain pieces on a potter’s wheel, taking inspiration from her home area of Mourne. The aim of the work is to reconnect with the land and bring a bit of nature into our hectic everyday lives. Resulting in work that is organic yet modern, with expressive surfaces and clean forms.
A recurring theme in the work is balance; balance between form and surface, balance of the larger vessels, balance of our busy lives and taking a moment to ourselves.
The work is designed to be functional and something that we can introduce to our everyday lives. Acting as a little reminder to environment and peace, something slower that gives us a little bit of space to breathe.
We’re excited to be able to welcome you all into the studio and provide the opportunity for you to give the craft a go yourself.
