Bio

Helen Shearer works from her studio set in the grounds of Glenarm Castle Estate, in the pretty Co. Antrim village of Glenarm.

“While studying Silversmithing and Jewellery at Art College I experimented with the use of clay as a wearable media. This led to me work almost exclusively with porcelain as its properties suited the scale and fine detail in my work.”

Birds, insects, small mammals, plants and wild flowers fill the fields surrounding the castle estate and provide the perfect inspiration for her work.

“I enjoy the tranquility of where I live. Being so close to nature, allows me to record through drawing and then to translate these images into porcelain.”

Helen’s work weave’s a subtle narrative from the colour and form found in the coastal and rural environment of Co. Antrim.
