Joel M Smyth designs and exquisitely crafts beautiful heirloom fine jewellery from his studio in County Down, Ireland. With roots in a family of artists and craftsmen, Joel studied at Belfast School of Art and the Art Academy of Latvia, graduating with a First Class Honours Jewellery Degree in 2021. After working with established goldsmiths, the Steensons of Glenarm, Joel started his own jewellery business in 2022 with his award winning collection, ‘Tactility’, inspired by European minimalist design, multifunctionality, and interaction. He works with silver, gold, platinum, palladium, diamonds and precious gemstones, creating both his own collections of jewellery and bespoke pieces, which include engagement & wedding rings.

Joel graduated from Belfast School of Art in 2021 with a First Class Honours Degree in Jewellery and Silversmithing, having represented Northern Ireland at the Worldskills UK Fine Jewellery Making competition in 2019, and achieved Highly Commended. He has won awards and exhibition opportunities locally, nationally and internationally. After working for the Steensons, Glenarm County Antrim, Joel established his own business in 2022. A piece from his debut collection ‘Tactility’ was awarded a Goldsmiths Craftsmanship & Design Council Bronze Award, 3D Conceptual Jewellery in 2022. Pieces from the collection have been included in several publications and exhibited around the United Kingdom.
Joel has also received several important commissions including the design and making of twelve award trophies for the Ulster University Excellence Awards 2019, and the Dame Gillian Weir Medal for the Northern Ireland International Organ Competition 2020, 2023 & 2024. He has been supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, the Princes Trust, The ‘Go For It’ programme, the Goldsmiths Centre of London, the ‘Go Succeed’ programme, and his local council.
In addition to designing and making his own unique collections, Joel also makes wedding jewellery, bespoke designs for clients with a specific brief, and redesigns heirloom jewellery.
