I am a contemporary jewellery designer and maker from County Down, Northern Ireland.

Bio

Joel Smyth is a contemporary designer and maker of jewellery from County Down Northern Ireland. He graduated with a First Class Honours in Ceramics, Jewellery and Silversmithing, specializing in Jewellery, from Ulster University Belfast School of Art. He was also awarded a Diploma in International Academic Studies upon graduating for undertaking a year-long Erasmus+ placement at the Latvian Academy of Art, Riga, and an EDGE excel award. Joel’s work has been exhibited locally, nationally, and internationally, as well as online with the Association of Contemporary Jewellers and Belfast School of Art.

In 2019, Joel represented Northern Ireland in the UK finals of Worldskills UK, in Birmingham, and was highly commended. Joel has received support from the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, and commissions such as making Ulster University’s Excellence awards 2019, and the Northern Ireland International Organ Competition Dame Gillian Weir Medal 2020.

I am part of the Association of Contemporary Jewellers 25th Anniversary touring exhibition ‘Meanings & Messages’, where my ‘Tactility’ Brooch is on display with other ACJ members brooches.

  • Goldsmiths Centre – January – Feb 2023
  • New Brewery Arts – 4th April – 18th June 2023

I accept commissions for jewellery (including redesigns and restorations), trophies & medals, as well as larger scale silverware and decorative items.
