Dog Star Silver
Jewellery
Louisa creates unique jewellery adornments with a celtic twist, using recycled metals, traditional silversmithing techniques and silver clay.
Louisa McCartney is a jewellery designer from Northern Ireland whose work blends traditional silversmithing with the creative possibilities of silver clay.
Inspired by local nature, myths, and heritage, she creates pieces that are both wearable and rich with story.
Working with recycled silver and gold, Louisa makes her own moulds at home, often using textures and shapes found in buildings or the natural world. This hands-on process means her pieces are unique – a reflection of her surroundings and her connection to the materials she uses.
She loves exploring the contrasts between cool, polished silver and the aged depth of patina, often adding touches of gold through keum-boo, an ancient gilding technique. Her approach bridges past and present, honouring traditional craftsmanship while pushing creative boundaries.
Louisa trained at Belfast Met and the Jewellers Academy in London. She is a member of the North Down Craft Collective, the Guild of Jewellery Designers, and is registered with the London Assay Office.
Alongside her own work, Louisa runs silver clay workshops in both private and community settings, sharing her love of making and helping others discover the joy of transforming metal into something meaningful.
