Textiles, Mixed Media
Zoë is a self-taught textile artist, specialising in embroidered works, inspired by Irish and British Landscapes. Her Landscape Tapestries weave memories of place on to the highest quality Irish Linen with cotton threads, encouraging viewers to reimagine forgotten landscapes through both touch and by eye.
Artist’s Biography
Zoё V. Gibson completed her award-winning Master of Architecture Thesis in 2022, before pursuing her PhD in architectural education. Stemming from her own experiences in the design studio, and curiosity on the history of architectural teaching, Zoë’s research is immersed within the Belfast School of Architecture (+ The Built Environment) vertical teaching design studios, addressing the future of architectural education and responding to challenges within contemporary design school ecologies.
In addition to her studies, Zoё creates textile art depicting meaningful landscapes on Irish Linen. Her work explores sites across Ireland and the United Kingdom through cotton threads and intricate stitching patterns, weaving into the linen fibres. Zoё’s embroidery work is self-taught, and has been featured by Ulster University, Royal Society of Ulster Architects, Craft NI Gallery and within the Linen Biennale.
Zoё’s background in architecture and identification of landscape via site analysis, aids her abstraction and reinterpretion our vast ecologies and ecosystems through textile art.
