Mourne Textiles Announce Series of Summer Workshops

Mourne Textiles have announced a series of hands-on workshops, taking place at their Rostrevor Mill this Summer.
“We’re very lucky to have two wonderful teachers joining us, Catherine Murphy @thesewciallifeof and Kathryn Davey @kathryn_davey , who will each be leading a workshop. Catherine is a specialist in darning and Japanese Sashiko, and Kathryn in natural plant dyeing. Alongside them, my lovely mum Karen and I will teach weaving.”
These workshops will be a unique opportunity to learn traditional techniques in a beautiful part of Ireland, at the Mourne Textiles mill in Killowen, Rostrevor.
1. Darning & Japanese Shashiko, 13th June. Led by Catherine Murphy.
Morning: Darning – Stiching for repair and extending the life of garments.
Afternoon: Japanese Sashiko – Traditional stitching and embroidery technique for visible mending.
2. Weaving & Natural Colour, 27th & 28th June.
Day 1: Natural plant dying for yarns and fleece. Led by Kathryn Davey.
Day 2: – Hand weaving using the yarns and fleece dyed from the previous day. Led by Mario Sierra and Karen Hay-Edie.
3. Rug Weaving, 14th – 16th August. Led by Mario Sierra and Karen Hay-Edie.
Set across three days, you will learn to weave a rag rug on one of our traditional floor looms.
By the end of this workshop you will have a rug to take home.
