Join Patricia Van Den Akker of the Design Trust, through DCCI and Craft NI as part of August Craft Month resources for craft makers, in a short, tip-filled webinar, based on her 2025 book Teaching Creative Workshops.  

Why take part? Packed full advice and inspiration, this will be a practical, step-by-step session focused on helping makers decide what kind of event is right for you. Are you building audiences, attracting commissions, adding an income stream, or passionate about communicating your craft? Patricia will cover:  

Part 1 (1 hour) 

• Choosing the right type of event: Helping you consider what you could offer, who it’s for, space & practical constraints, and the realities of your time, energy and budget;  

• An overview of potential event formats: incl. open studios, demonstrations, workshops, exhibitions, talks and tours. Patricia will share the pros and cons of each, alongside simple ways to enhance and elevate them to make it more engaging or special.  

• Building memorable experiences: how to turn your event into an even more memorable experience, through storytelling, small moments of participation, and creating reasons for visitors to come to your event. 

• Simple event marketing tips: Focusing on clarity, invitations, and making the most of your existing platforms and networks.  

Part 2 Practical Session (optional, 30 mins) 

For those who want to go further, take part in a short, structured exercise to develop your own event idea. You’ll will leave with: 

• a clear event concept 

• chosen format and practical outline 

• 1–2 ideas to make it more engaging 

• a next step to move forward
