The Business of being an Artist Course – 2024
This iteration of the Business of Being an Artist course, now in its 4th year, includes an exciting line up of really exceptional guest speakers. Three successful artist/makers based in Ireland will join René focusing on one aspect each of their lives as artist/makers and how it has helped them make their creative work a very viable day job.
A series of 2 hour classes over 6 insightful weeks is designed to help artists and makers navigate their way through self employment, managing their time and maximising their productivity and profitability. Hosted by the wonderful Belfast Ceramics Studio headed up by entreupreneur/ceramicist Helen Faulkner, this venue is fast becoming a creative hub for all things making. René Mullin has been in business within the creative industries for over almost 30 years, beginning in graphic design studios in Edinburgh. René has a degree in Marketing and Management, a Masters in Arts management and has been a trustee and board member with both Craft NI and most recently the Belfast Print Workshop (Chair) for over 6 years in total.
René runs her own printmaking studio at her home, has been a member of BPW since 2009 and is a partner in her family landscape architecture business which has been running successfully for 24 years. René has invited guests to join her this season on the Business of being an artist course, local makers and artists who have made their day job their dream job. Renowned silversmith Cara Murphy will talk on funding applications and how to manage that process.
Jo Pearson aka @_strangford lino printmaker will talk about the importance of building, growing and nurturing an audience and the benefits of collaboration. And, current champion winner of the Great Pottery Throwdown, Donna Bloye will talk on her journey back to clay, the importance of self-investment and following your creative call. The course can be booked in a whole or in individual classes.
