The Debi O’Hehir Visual Arts Bursary 2025

Applications are now open for The Debi O’Hehir Visual Arts Bursary 2025. The Tyrone Guthrie Centre has been the beneficiary of a legacy made by artist and regular resident, Debi O’Hehir (1962-2015). Thanks to Debi’s and her family’s generosity, the Tyrone Guthrie Centre is pleased to announce the awarding of two Debi O’Hehir bursaries this year.

The 2024 the award is for a visual artist working in paint or print who need time and space at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre to develop a new body of paintings or prints, or who working towards an exhibition, publication or project opportunity.

This bursary is open to artists living and working in Counties Antrim, Armagh, Derry/Londonderry, Down, Fermanagh or Tyrone as well as artists living and working in Counties Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim or Monaghan. Applications are welcomed and encouraged from artists at any career stage, from artists who believe they are under-represented, and from artists who have not previously been to the Tyrone Guthrie Centre at Annaghmakerrig.

 

The Bursary
The two artists awarded bursaries will be invited to spend a fortnight at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre in County Monaghan. Their stay in Annaghmakerrig House will be fully catered, and a visual arts or the print studio will be their dedicated workspace.

Two Debi O’Hehir bursary winners will be announced before the end of April 2025. Once the bursaries are awarded, the Centre will be in contact the successful artists to find a residency time that suits their schedules.

How to apply
If you are interested in a Debi O’Hehir bursary, please complete this application. Attach an up-to-date CV, samples of your recent work, and a short statement about what you would like to achieve if awarded a bursary before submitting it. Applications will be reviewed by an independent selection panel for eligibility, expression of intent, and the range and quality of work samples provided.

About the award:

Artist Debi O’Hehir was a was a regular visitor to the centre valued member of the Tyrone Guthrie Community. A talented artist, she lived and worked in County Leitrim, having grown up in Kinvara, County Clare. Her paintings are imbued with vitality – each one characterised by a dynamic, fluid handling of ink and paint. She worked primarily in ink on Arches or Fabriano artist’s paper. Horses were Debi’s passion and often the subject of her work.
