Wells Art Contemporary 2024
22 February 2024
Deadline: March 11, 2024The Wells Art Contemporary (WAC) is an open international art competition giving creatives the opportunity to exhibit their work in Wells Cathedral, taking place in August 2024. There are two parts to WAC 24: the Gallery show and the Installation show.
Now in its 14th year, WAC welcomes submissions from artists over the age of 18 working in any medium. Submissions are invited to the Gallery show, where artworks are shown in a temporary white-wall gallery within the Cathedral’s cloisters. Artwork in any medium will be considered for exhibition here, including 3D and video, artists can submit up to four works. The exhibition will run from Saturday 3 August to Saturday 31 August, with a private viewing on the 2nd.
The Site Specific Installations will be shown alongside the Gallery Exhibition and offer a unique opportunity for twenty artists to create a artwork responding to locations in the main body of the Cathedral. WAC 2024 welcomes work from artists of all faiths and of none. However, many of the most resonant pieces in recent years have acknowledged in one way or another the sacred spaces of the Cathedral, its soaring Gothic architecture and its epic public grandeur set against intimate places for quiet reflection.
Artists may enter up to four proposed installations. And you may also submit to the Gallery Exhibition, see link above.
The installation selectors will consider ideas in any medium and of any size. To apply for the Site Specific Installation, see here.
The Installation Show entry deadline is 11 March 2024, 5pm.
For each of these opportunities, there are specific briefs and information you should familiarise yourself with. Each opportunity also has its own range of exciting prizes available, please see full details by following the links above.
