Wells Art Contemporary 2025
24 April 2024
Deadline: July 1, 2025
The Wells Art Contemporary (WAC) is an open international art competition giving creatives the opportunity to exhibit their work in Wells Cathedral. The 2025 exhibition will run from 8 October to 1 November 2025.
Gallery Exhibition
The WAC Gallery is a unique exhibition space installed along three sides of Wells Cathedral’s Cloisters, where a white-wall gallery is built to display work.
It forms part of the main visitor route round the Cathedral and can be very busy, especially in summer. Artwork in any medium will be considered for exhibition in the gallery, including painting, drawing, sculpture, print, photo, video, digital, textile, mixed media, and more.
The 2025 Gallery Exhibition will be selected by three distinguished artists: David Ferry, renowned printmaker; Habib Hajallie, esteemed portrait painter Charlotte Hodes, professor of Fine Art and acclaimed visual artist.
The deadline to enter work to Exhibit in the Gallery is the 8th July 2025 at 5pm.
Site Specific Installations
Wells Art Contemporary offers a unique opportunity for artists to create a site-specific artwork for Wells Cathedral. Artists are encouraged to draw inspiration from the Cathedral’s unique building and spirituality, and to be bold and imaginative in their proposals. They can suggest a specific installation site anywhere within the Cathedral boundary, including the Chapter House, and its two outside spaces: the Camery Garden and the Palm Courtyard.
The 2025 Installation Proposals will be selected by: Cathy De Monchaux, Turner Prize shortlisted sculptor, whose work can be displayed in collections across the globe and numerous public commissions Laura Moffat, Director of Art and Christianity and Editor of its quarterly journal
The deadline to enter proposals for Site Specific Installations is the 1st July 2025
