Windsor Framework: Trading with Northern Ireland after 31st March 2025
6 March 2025
Deadline: March 12, 2025
Companies based In Great Britain sending goods to Northern Ireland after 31st March 2025 need to be aware of the changes being implemented under the Windsor Framework, the mechanism that replaced the Northern Ireland Protocol.
The changes primarily involve the full introduction of the Red and UK Internal Market Lanes; the latter removing the requirement to make a customs declaration or pay import duty upon certain goods entering Northern Ireland. There are registration implications to be able to take full advantage of these changes.
The EU’s General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) has severely impacted GB-NI trade causing frustration on both sides of the Irish Sea. It is imperative that GB businesses work to regain their footing in this important market, and part of this commitment involves obtaining a full understanding of existing and forthcoming regulation with the power to impact this important flow of trade.
